Guidance Conducts Awareness Week

The Guidance, Counseling and Testing Center, in cooperation with the different colleges of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP), spearheaded the conduct of the Guidance Awareness Week at Sta. Mesa Campus with an over-all theme, “Quality Guidance Services Helping to Create a Healthy Learning Environment for Students” from November 21-26 and December 2, 2011.

Dr. Clarence M. Batan, faculty member of University of Santo Tomas (UST) shared his knowledge and insights about the theme “Better Ways to Effective Study Habits” to the 1st year students of Laboratory High School together with the selected students from the different colleges on November 21, 2011.

Meanwhile, a seminar on “Quality Guidance Services Helping to Create a Healthy Learning Environment for Students” facilitated by Dr. Oscar M. Gomez, RCG from UP Diliman was alsoheld on the same day.

On November 23, 2011, student-representatives coming from different colleges performed “Transformative Cell Facilitation Training” held at the Multi-Purpose Hall of the Laboratory High School. Another activity for the day was the poster making contest at the same venue and participated in by high school and college students from different colleges.

A seminar-workshop discussing a subject matter about “Suicide Prevention and Management of Depression” led by Ms. Imelda Celestin L. Monsale, RCG, was conducted at PUP-GCTC, Sta. Mesa. The whole day counselor’s forum-seminar was attended by the guidance counselors from the different satellite campuses.

“Bullying and Cyber Addiction” is the title of the seminar that was conducted last November 24, 2011 at the Bulwagang Balagtas, Ninoy Aquino Library and Learning Center (NALLRC). Ms. Angelita R. Crisostomo,Guidance Counselor, RCG, delivered her speech before the 3rd and 4th year students from various colleges. Another seminar entitled “Making Your Emotions Work for You” was discussed by Ms. Lilia Ng Gui, M.A., Life Coach for the guidance counselors from different campuses and a Laboratory High School Faculty.

On the other hand, the theme “I am the Extension of the Community” was discussed at Bulwagang Balagtas, Ninoy Aquino Library and Learning Center (NALLRC)by PUP-Peer Facilitators Association for their 4th Annual Youth Congress last November 26, 2011.

On the last day of the weeklong event, Guidance, Counseling and Testing Center rendered the seminar “Promoting Healthy Relationship” attended by the students coming from the different colleges and the Laboratory High School spearheaded by Dr. Reynaldo Nuelito Q. Canlas, Ph.D, RCG, DLSUSt. Benilde who tackled the subject.It was followed by the afternoon conference led by Mr. Ian I. Llenares from Technological Institute of the Philippines (TIP) who shared his insights on the topic, “Handling Frustrations and Conflicts”.

With all these lined-up GCTC activities spearheaded by Dir. Barbara Camacho, the PUP community -- the students, faculty, administrative employees – learned more about life and how to cope with its challenges.
