PUP Wins Big in 2012 House Design Competition

Borican, The PUP Observer, Volume 1, Issue 2, July 2012Three groups of senior students from the College of Architecture and Fine Arts represented the University in the 2012 National House Design Competition sponsored by Pag-IBIG Fund. The competition was launched early this year and culminated in the awarding ceremonies last May 8.

Aside from PUP, the contest was participated in by students from the following schools: University of Sto. Tomas, University of the Philippines, Far Eastern University, MAPUA, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, Technological Institute of the Philippines Manila, Bulacan State University and Technological University of the Philippines Manila.
All three groups went home as winners with the group of Jonah D. Aldeza, Robert S. Castro, Teofilo F. Estorninos, Jonas C. Makiramdam and Kristian Jay Muring bagging the second prize. The group was awarded PhP 50,000.00 and each of them received a certificate and a token.
A special Jury Prize of PhP 10,000.00 was awarded to the group composed of Cristina Belen, Glenn Clevert C. Matre, Alpha Jane M. Moldogo, Zari Jane M. Ongkingco and Patrick Harold S. Torres.
The third group consists of Manuel Abuid Jr., Lohn Arnie Bonete, Darron Ruscer Arnuco, Nissi del Rosario and Joriel Medina were given an Award of Participation and a cash prize of PhP5,000.00
The University was also awarded with a plaque of recognition as Second Place winner. According to CAFA Dean Ted Inocencio, who served as adviser to the groups, what separates the First Prize winner UST from PUP was just a single point. He explained, "Our students made do with the design they came up with because of time constraints as they have to make it to the competition despite the fact that all of them are taking their Architectural Internship 2 (Jobsite Summer Training)."
