Vision
The CLL envisions the development of a pool of graduates who are
globally competent in language/s, linguistics, instructional
arts, research, and ICT (information and communication
technology) and who will be leaders/prime movers dedicated to
serve the university stakeholders, the country, and the
international community.
Mission
In conformance with the PUP vision, the CLL commits itself to
provide all opportunities that will help the students develop a
high level of competence in the following areas: language
learning and teaching, linguistics, research, extension,
community service, production, local and international linkage
forging, and stakeholder empowerment.
Goals and Objectives
To prepare students for the global demands of the changing times,
the College strives to achieve the following goals and objectives:
- Proficiency in language learning and teaching
- To equip students with the needed knowledge and skills,
including the use of networked technologies, for the
development of their proficiency in language learning and
teaching;
- To enhance students' receptive and active communication
skills and stimulate their creative and effective expression
of ideas;
- Competence in linguistics
- To promote the study and use of Filipino and other
Philippine languages, English and other international
languages through systematized learning and research;
- Excellence in research
- To provide students with significant experiences in
analyzing, synthesizing, and utilizing effective approaches
to various human problems and in marshalling relevant
information on any given topic or problem particularly in
language learning and teaching;
- Responsiveness in extension service
- To assist students to utilize facts or information as
responsibly and effectively as possible in activities or
undertakings related to any field - education, mass media,
the social sciences, the arts, the physical sciences,
business, and industry;
- Commitment to community service
- To inculcate in the students nationalistic, humanistic,
cultural, moral, aesthetic, and spiritual value judgments
necessary for their roles as leaders and prime movers of the
country and the international community;
- Production of quality materials
- To write relevant instructional materials that meet
national and international standards;
- Establishment of local and international linkages
- To build and maintain bonds and associations with local
and international organizations and institutions; and
- Empowerment of stakeholders
- To provide activities and programs that will enhance
stakeholder participation and cooperation.
Functions
- Provide undergraduate programs in English, Filipino,
Filipinology and Applied Linguistics;
- Offer post-baccalaureate programs in translation, teaching
Filipino, and teaching English to speakers of other languages;
- Administer language-training and short-term certificate
programs;
- Undertake research in linguistics (applied, descriptive,
comparative, historical) and in Filipinology;
- Exercise educational leadership and management of its
various curricula;
- Recommend academic policies and assume responsibilities for
implementing existing ones in the college;
- Assist in the development of new curricula relevant to
societal and development needs;
- Formulate and initiate programs for the professional growth
and development of faculty members of the college;
- Supervise student curricular and co-curricular activities;
- Enforce admission, retention and graduate requirements;
- Encourage research, production and extension among faculty
members;
- Recommend support for viable projects and extension work
among faculty members;
- Assist other colleges by providing instruction in service
subjects and
- Provide technical and professional assistance/service to the
community.
