Master of Arts in Economics

General Provisions
If the student has not taken undergraduate courses in a field of specialization, he is required to take eighteen (18) units of qualifying courses to be determined by the Academic Program Chairperson unless otherwise specified in the curriculum;

The student may take more than the prescribed units in any distribution in the curriculum to meet his career objective and professional needs;

Free electives may be chosen from among the courses offered which are outside the required subjects in the student’s curriculum;

If the student has completed courses substantially equivalent to the required courses, he may waive the latter by application to the Dean.


Program Description
The Master of Arts in Economics (MAE) is a graduate program offered to students who wish to pursue a professional career in economics. The program provides quality theoretical foundation and practical knowledge necessary in preparing its graduates for advanced work in the economics profession.


Vision
The Master of Arts in Economics degree program is envisioned as an excellent graduate study offering of the University.


Mission
The program is geared towards producing economists who are equipped with the philosophy and technical skills in the application of economics whether in government, business, academe, or non-government organizations.


Objectives

  • To provide professional competencies in economics for a career in business and government
  • To develop the capacity to analyze economic problems and offer solutions
  • To provide adequate training in the application of statistical methods and other related quantitative techniques in evaluating economic situations and decisions
  • To develop the discipline for scientific research and study
  • To enhance the capability to render informed judgment about the state of the economy and actively participate in the betterment of the socio-economic well-being of the Filipinos

  3. Electives/Cognates (6 units)
    • RH 615 Seminar in Thesis Writing
    • Any subject from allied field of specialization
  4. Thesis (6 units)
    • RH 620 Thesis
  5. Other Research Requirements - At least two (2) empirical research papers (per CHED drafted curriculum for MA Economics)
