PUP Nutrition and Food Science professor and Quality Assurance Center head Dr. Adela Jamorabo-Ruiz was an invited speaker and research presenter at the 6th Asian Congress of Dietetics (ACD) on the theme “Advancing Health through Innovating Dietetic Practice across Asia” held at the National Taiwan University Hospital (NTUH) International Convention Center, Taipei, Taiwan last August 21-24.
Held every four years under the auspices of the Asian Federation of Dietetics Associations (AFDA), ACD had Dr. Ruiz as the country’s voting delegate being the President of the Nutritionist-Dietitians’ Association of the Philippines (NDAP) and Secretary General of the AFDA Council Meetings and General Assembly.
Dr. Ruiz was a speaker in the Session on International Qualification and Accreditation of Dietetics Profession along with invitees from Australia, Canada, India and the United States of America.
Dr. Ruiz’s studies on “Hospital Nutritionist-Dietitians’ Access to Continuing Professional Education” (with Maria Estela Jamorabo of PUP), “Pre- and Post-Practicum Assessment of BSND Seniors of Their Medical Nutrition Therapy Competencies” (with Maria Estela Jamorabo of PUP and Josephine Jamon of Veterans Memorial Medical Center), “The Research Engagement of Nutritionist-Dietitians in Philippine Hospitals: An Assessment” (with Maria Estela Jamorabo of PUP) and “Evaluating Performance of Senior Nutrition and Dietetics Students in Foodservice Practicum” (with Esperanza SJ Lorenzo of PUP), were presented in that international gathering of dietetics professionals, researchers and practitioners in nutrition science.
Some 1,200 delegates from 21 countries divided their time to attend a keynote lecture, 5 plenary lectures, 21 symposia, 2 workshops, 1 panel discussion and 8 luncheon symposia with 81 invited speakers from Asia, Oceania, USA, Canada and Israel. There were 8 oral sessions with 52 research presentations and 4 thematic poster exhibitions with 269 researches. A Declaration of the advocacies of AFDA was signed by country representatives. Added features were exhibitions of food, nutrition and dietetics products and services with freebies and samples.
