The Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) is now bringing its services to adjacent communities through the ‘Salin-Kaalaman Tungo sa Kabuhayan’ program of the Research and Extension Management Department (REMD) and the Community Relations and Extension for Development Office (CREDO).
Memorandums of agreement for the implementation of ‘Salin Kaalaman’ were signed by PUP President Dr. Emanuel C. De Guzman, Executive Vice President Dr. Manuel M. Muhi and REMD head Dr. Racidon P. Bernarte last August 14 with local government officials from 16 communities in Sta. Mesa, Manila. The ceremony was held at the Accenture Room, Main Academic Building, PUP A. Mabini Campus, Manila.
The program is expected to benefit the 16 barangays and their respective constituencies especially in the areas of livelihood, education and training, leadership and community management.
To prepare the colleges and offices which were identified as possible providers of experts and resource persons, REMD and CREDO jointly conducted last July 24 a University-Wide Orientation on the PUP Extension Program. The activity was graced by Dr. Maria Corazon T. Lopez, associate dean of the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP).
The first ‘Salin-Kaalaman’ project commenced last August 20 with the launching of the ‘Solid Waste Management’ component. It was facilitated by the Institute of Technology, College of Engineering and College of Science and was attended by 40 participants from the partner barangays
