Dan Esponilla Dalac, Top Story, Special 2014 Mid-Year Graduation Issue
The Polytechnic University of the Philippines bestowed a doctorate in Humanities (honoris causa) to publisher Oscar L. Jornacion on December 5 during its mid-year commencement exercises at the PUP Gymnasium in Sta. Mesa, Manila.
PUP President Dr. Emanuel C. De Guzman conferred the degree on Jornacion, a poor lad-turned-accountant from La Union province who is now the president and publisher of the First Tri- Media Group of Companies in the United States.
Jornacion is recognized as the Filipino-American leader behind such media outfits as California Examiner, World Reporter, Radio Manila-KSPC, Philippine Television, Filipino Yellow Pages, and Ace Printing and Graphics.
President De Guzman said Jornacion exemplifies the Filipino passion and pride which is evident in the latter’s humility and hard work that has revolutionized work quality and service.
A Master in Business Education graduate of the Pepperdine University in California, Jornacion is also a philanthropist who supports a day care center for a hundred elderly persons, provides scholarship assistance to underprivileged youths, and donates to charities.
"Because of his Tri-Media Group of Companies, papers that represent different nationalities were published as well. To him, no one color is brighter than the others—each race must be valued, each culture must be exhibited by inking all on newspapers and diversified publications."
