The Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) community expressed its most heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of University of the Philippines (UP) Manila student Kristel Tejada.
Kristel Tejada, a Behavioral Science student of the University of the Philippines (UP) Manila took her own life last March 15.
PUP President Emanuel C. De Guzman said that the unfortunate demise of Kristel Tejada reminded us that there are a lot of issues and concerns which an “Iskolar ng Bayan” needs to overcome and that responsible members of society should lend a hand to help or assist them.
“On behalf of the whole PUP community, I would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, classmates and friends of UP student Kristel Tejada. Her unfortunate demise forces us to reflect what needs to be done to protect our youth and support the pursuit of their dreams,” President de Guzman said.
President De Guzman welcomed the University of the Philippines (UP) Administration’s decision to review the implementation of the Socialized Tuition and Financial Assistance Program (STFAP) which was reportedly one of the reasons of Tejada’s suicide. He said that such move is in the best interests of the poorest students who want to enroll in UP to benefit from this scheme.
More so, President De Guzman reiterated that his Administration is not planning to implement a socialized tuition fee scheme in PUP and such design will not work out in the University.#
