The country’s first polytechnic and largest university had launched a lecture series to commemorate its 110th founding anniversary this year.
The first part of the series, a lecture on Knowledge Management in Higher Education Institutions, was held September 9 at Bulwagang Bonifacio. This lecture was attended by the deans and chairpersons of the different Colleges and directors and chiefs of various offices. Dr. Serafin D. Talisayon, Director for Research and Development, shared his expertise on knowledge management. He said knowledge management demands not only learning new perspectives, but unlearning old ones that no longer work. In a global economy that is increasingly knowledge-based, knowledge management (KM) is essential.
Then there was the September 11 lecture on Technology and Innovation Towards a Green Community at Bulwagang Balagtas. Officials and students from the College of Architecture and Fine Arts, College of Engineering, College of Computer and Information Sciences, College of Tourism, Hospitality and Transportation Management, College of Science, and Institute of Technology trooped to the venue. PUP Lopez, Quezon joined the event through Skype. Architect Royal Christopher L. Pineda, a true blue PUPian CAFA, wooed the audience with his life story of struggle. From a simple assistant who counted swimming pool tiles to a world-renowned architect, he showed everyone that obedience, persistence, and patience are important elements of success. The so-called Academic and Research Center (The ARC), the building which he designed for PUP, also elicited excitement from the audience.
The third lecture, The Science of Disaster: Linking Global Climate Change to Disaster’ took place on September 16 at Bulwagang Balagtas. Dr. Donna Paz T. Reyes, executive director of the Environmental Studies Institute of Miriam College, explained the effects of global climate change. She also emphasized the importance of disaster preparedness and shared their projects in Miriam College in line with this advocacy.
