PUP Sablayan, Mindoro Now Open

THE Polytechnic University of the Philippines' 21st campus has recently started its full operation with the Open University System programs Master in Educational Management and Master in Public Administration.

Over 80 hopefuls of becoming master degree holders participated in the On-Site Start-Up Activities program of PUP Sablayan on October 26-27, 2010. The enrollees were joined by the whole Sablayan Community - from its Mayor down to its barangay officials at the Sablayan Astrodome. Sablayan Mayor Eduardo B. Gadiano welcomed with open arms the PUP Team headed by Executive Director for PUP Campuses Randolph G. Alcantara.

"I am really happy that this project pushed through. People of Sablayan will not have to go to Mamburao to study," Mayor Gadiano said. He continued his speech saying, "With the establishment of PUP Sablayan, employment will also increase. Thus helping Sablayan to grow and develop further." He was also surprised to know that PUP Exec. Dir. Alcantara is a local of Sablayan who finished high school in that part of Mindoro.

As part of the two-day event, a ground breaking ceremony and PUP site tour followed the opening program. On the second day the series of activities took place: orientation of the first batches of MEM and MPA; installation of IT equipment and SIS software; administration of PUP-OUS entrance test; and enrollment and ID processing. This second day event was organized and facilitated by the PUP Team composed of: ED Randolph Alcantara with his staff Ma. Consolacion Usero; Dir. Elena Abeleda and Erma Consina of ARO; Christian Ordanel and Ryan Niog of ICTC; Raqual Javier, Jeremy Cesar Santos and Cecille Banayos of PUP-OUS; Josefina Concepcion and Loranza Caparas of Finance; Israel Balignasay of PAO; and Reynaldo Savellano of SO.

With the opening of PUP-OUS programs in PUP Sablayan, Mayor Gadiano and ED Alcantara will look into possibilities of offering four-year courses next school year.
