Editorial: PUP Churns Out Achievers
Public Affairs Office, PUP News, Volume 8 Issue No. 15 October 1-30, 2011What makes the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) distinctively different from other tertiary educational institutions is not only its strong student population of more than 68,000 and its low tuition fee, but also its impressive performance in producing globally competititve graduates.
Try to look around and you’ll not find any difficulty in discovering PUP products who are playing important roles in the fields that they have entered into. We’re aware about PUP accounting graduates who are at the top of the organizational structure or are dominating the workforce in terms of their number. The same goes for our engineering, computer, hotel and restaurant, masscom, nutrition and architecture graduates who are competing with or even moving ahead of their fellow professionals.
Still fresh in our memory is a lowly probinsyano who topped the mechanical board exam in 2008; the three accounting graduates who topped their accountancy board in 2010; and the PUP College of Law which, although still in its infancy stage, has already been tagged as among the country’s top law schools in terms of its sterling performance in the yearly bar exam being conducted by the Supreme Court.
Because of its undeniable excellent performance, a high administration official once unhesitatingly remarked that about 10 percent of the country’s working CPAs are graduates of PUP. “With this number of workforce in the accounting field, we just imagine how our country would be affected if all these PUP accountants will pull out from their jobs,” the official proudly said.
We’re just happy to note that in this year’s PUP celebration of its 107th founding anniversary, the university administration aptly gave its recognition to our board topnotchers in different fields since 2004, winners in the annual university-wide academic contests, outstanding academic organizations, and the victors in university intramurals.
This recognition award will not only strengthen the will and determination of our studentry to do their best in various fields of endeavors, but likewise project the Sta. Mesa-based state university as the citadel of excellence in tertiary education which benefits the hilt of our youngsters, especially the children of our financially less privileged countrymen.
Kudos to our university administration officials, faculty and administrative personnel for making the yearly anniversary celebration more meaningful by including this Achievers Awards as one of the novelty additions to the colorful anniversary celebration.
