PUP Vies for the 6th World Cheerleading

The 2011 SCUAA-National Cheerleading Champion, PUP Stars, competed against more than 20 countries with almost 70 teams in the recently concluded 6th Cheerleading World Championships 2011 at the Hong Kong Coliseum, Hong Kong, China on November 26 and 27, 2011.

PUP Vies for the 6th World CheerleadingThe PUP pride represented the country together with Centro Escolar University ‘Scorpions’ and UAAP cheerdancing champ, University of the Philippines Pep Squad in the two-day cheerleading event. These teams joined the following categories: cheer-all female; cheer-mixed; cheer dance; group stunts-all female; group stunts-mixed; and partner stunts. This annual event which started in 2001 in Tokyo, Japan, was organized by Cheerleading Federation of Hong Kong, China and sanctioned by International Federation of Cheerleading. The federation formed and funds this event because they hope to: promote cheerleading activities globally; spread the knowledge of cheerleading and its underlying safety principles; develop friendly sporting relations among member nations; organize cheerleading clinics and lectures based on international rules; and, most importantly, promote cheerleading as a sport for all individuals regardless of race, gender, age or social class.

Fully supported by the university and the PUP community, the PUP Stars was supervised by Prof. Julia PreciosaTuazon and was composed of the following members: Fatima Arabe, Cathyrine Boronda, Czarney Fei De Gula, EstephanieTarepe, Jovito Bonita, Jr, Gabriel Ezra Gaddi, Joseph Vanrey Setarios, Joshua Nelson Sipin, RemielynRamas and Mhery Grace Gabuay.

PUP Stars ranked 11 in the partner stunts with Catherine Borondia and Gabriel Ezra Gaddi as representatives.
