PUP Campuses Produce More Than 4,000 Graduates

PUP President Dr. Emanuel C. De Guzman conferred the baccalaureate degrees of 4099 graduates from 14 campuses during the commencement exercises held from April 16 to May 3, 2012.

In the greater Manila area campuses, Taguig campus produced 379 graduates, of which were awarded two magna cum laude and 13 cum laude honors. The Quezon City Campus had 310 graduates with one magna cum laude and eight cum laude. Representative Rafael V. Mariano of Anak Pawis Party List served as the commencement exercises speaker for the Quezon City Campus. Meanwhile, San Juan Campus had its first graduation rites where 150 students marched to receive their bachelor’s degree. Three students received top awards in lieu of the usual honors. The honorable Representative of San Juan, Congressman Jose Victor Ejercito delivered the message to the graduates.

The San Pedro Campus started the series of graduation rites for the South Luzon campuses. The campus had a total of 204 graduates with one magna cum laude and one cum laude each. Rep. Cynthia Villar of the lone district of Las Piñas and the managing director of the Villar Foundation was the event’s speaker. Meanwhile, Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero was the guest of honor at the commencement exercises held at the Enchanted Kingdom Tent for PUP Sta. Rosa. The campus has produced 590 graduates, of which, four were hailed cum laude.

For this year, the 17th Commencement Exercises of PUP Sto. Tomas had registered 545 graduates; VP for Research, Extension, and Development, Dr. Pastor B. Malaborbor delivered the commencement address.

Consequently, PUP Maragondon campus had 336 graduates with President Dr. De Guzman as the commencement speaker. At PUP Lopez Campus, it was Rep. Julieta Cortuna of A-Teacher Party List who delivered the speech before the 407 graduates, of which 10 were acknowledged as cum laude. The Ragay Campus on the other hand, produced 224 graduates, giving honors to one magna cum laude and seven cum laude, with President Dr. De Guzman as the speaker. Dr. De Guzman was also the guest of honor for the PUP Unisan with 133 graduates, five of which were cum laude awardees. Rounding up the South Luzon campuses is Mulanay with 156 graduates, two of which received cum laude honors, with Representative Danilo Suarez of 3rd District Quezon Province, as the commencement speaker.

The last three campuses are from North Luzon which consist of PUP Bataan with 368 graduates, of which two were awarded cum laude; PUP Sta Maria had 3 magna cum laude, 16 cum laude, with a total of 375 graduates; and PUP Pulilan Campus with 126 graduates, two of which received magna cum laude and 9 cum laude honors. PUP President, Dr. Emanuel de Guzman stood as the commencement speaker for all three campuses.

Dr. Joseph Mercado, Executive Director for PUP Campuses assisted the University President and local government officials in the said momentous events.
