Distance education students under the Master in Communication (MC) program of the PUP Open University System served as consultants to an international communicators’ conference held at Traders Hotel in Manila on July 6.

The forum, billed as "International Conference on Corporate Communication and Consultancy - Global Crisis and the New Media: Challenges to the Corporate World," brought together top notch communication experts and educators to tackle pressing issues and concerns facing corporate communicators amid the economic crunch that has affected most parts of the world. It was attended by close to 300 delegates from the corporate world and the academe.

Filipino and foreign communication and consulting experts, digital gurus and industry leaders were among the roster of speakers.

The day-long conference featured talks by foreign and Filipino communication and consulting experts, digital gurus and leaders of Philippine industries. Dr. Florangel Rosario-Braid, an acknowledged Filipino authority in communication, gave her thoughts on the challenges facing the corporate communicator, the academe, government and media institutions today. Meanwhile, Dr. Satya P. Chattopadhyay, associate professor at the University of Scranton in Pennsylvania, USA and an expert in marketing discussed the universal transition of communication in the cyber age and the development of new communication concepts with the emergence of new media.

Thirty MC students from the PUP Open University were tapped as consultants by the conference presenter Philex Mines. They served as part of the conference committee which brought the event together. The conference was supported by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation, Pag-Ibig Fund, SMIC, SSS and Business Profiles Inc. The Philippine Star, Business Mirror, Business Insights, the Philippine Daily Inquirer and GMA 7 were the conference’s media partners.
