All Sectors in The University Participate in 2-Day Stratplanning

PUP Publications Office, R&D Newsletter, Volume III, Issue No. 8, January-March 2007

“All hands on deck” is an apt description of the two-day “Management Strategic Planning Workshop” which saw all sectors in the University actively participating in the activities lined up for each day.  Thirteen clusters representing the administration officials (Vice Presidents, deans, directors/chiefs of offices), administrative employees coming from the different offices/units, branches/extensions, employees’ union/faculty federation officials, and officers of various student organizations put their heads together to work on the University’s Strategic Plans for the years 2007-2017.  The planners were guided by inputs given by the Executive Vice President Dr. Victoria C. Naval in her welcome address and statement of purpose.  This was followed by the keynote speech of the CHED AND PUP-BOR Chair Dr. Carlito S. Puno whose management expertise gave so much practical help to the strategic planners. Dr. Puno exhorted them not to be too theory-oriented but to be pragmatic in determining what they can offer to both local and foreign clienteles.

Dr. Dante G. Guevarra

The Acting President Dr. Dante G. Guevarra presented his 10-Point Vision towards a Total University that is totally complete in itself as its name suggests.  The 10 points that Dr. Guevarra enumerated are the strategies that would be used to reach the goal he has set for PUP.  The Vice Presidents presented the 2005-2007 accomplishments of the offices they head in a power-point presentation.  This should give the participants a clear picture of where the University is at present so that it will know where it is going in the next ten years to come.

To have a truly composite picture of the University, the thirteen clusters analyzed the SWOT of the groups that each of them represents.  It is interesting to note that though they belong to diverse groups, the STRENGTHS, WEAKNESSES, OPPORTUNITIES, and THREATS they enumerated share many points of convergence.   The strategic plans that each group presented highlighted the last day of the workshop.  Another interesting outcome of the affair is the “Outstanding” evaluation that the participants gave the two-day event in all its aspects.  This is a clear manifestation that the objectives of the workshop have all been accomplished with the utmost cooperation exhibited by all:  officials, participants, committee members, facilitators, rapporteurs, and power-point presentation assistants.

The moving spirits behind the highly successful “Management Strategic Planning Workshop” are the Executive Committee composed of the Vice Presidents, with the Acting President as Chair.  The Steering Committee which left no stone unturned to ensure smooth sailing for the 2-day affair had EVP Victoria C. Naval as overall chair with OVPRD Pastor B. Malaborbor as Chair.
