COC's Pundido Won ABC 5's Dokyu
Ara Ariraya, PUP News, Volume IV, Issue No. 23, August 15-21, 2007COLLEGE OF Communication (CoC) romped away with the most coveted Grand Prize trophy as well as the viewer’s Choice Award in ABC 5’s “DOKYU-Student Documentary Competition” thru its “Pundido” entry.
The documentary “Pundido” unravels the life of a blind ‘balot’ and ‘buko’ juice street vendor, 61 year old Manong Erming Manila. His physically handicap does not hinder his day to day work so his family will survive the harsh life in the city.
All entries underwent rigid screening by the three-member board of critics: Prof. Danilo Arao, UP College of Mass Communication; Ms. Kara Magsanoc-Alikpala, documentarist, ABS-CBN and Mr. Ed Lingao, News Manager of ABC 5. This comprised half of the criteria. The other 50 percent comes from the relevance, direction, scriptwriting, editing and production values.
The original song that was used for the documentary entitled “Hubad na Mata” was composed and performed by its musical director, Natthan Dublin.
More than 200 entries nationwide were pre-screened and trimmed down to only 20. Three of the finalist were PUP entries namely; Isla Pulo, Batang Bakaw and Pundido.

Go, Deanne Avila, Reinalyn Laroza; technical staffs are Richard Christian Suruiz, Resa Abigail Nepomuceno, Roseanne Guimbangunan, Christian Gregor Atacador, Natthan Dublin and Sheina San Miguel; musical director is Natthan Dublin; production assistants are Eduardo Glorioso, Ricardo Lorenzo, Honeyltte Castillo, Jeffrey Victoria, Bernalin Cutamora, Kelveen Omipon, Nelia Arevalo, Yvonne Tugade and Dino Liwag.
Present during the awarding were Atty. Dante de Padua, ABC 5 depute managing director; Ramon Bautista, director of the program and Lim Libiran, the award winning director of Cinemalaya’s independent film “Tribu”.
