History
In the implementation of Republic Act 778 (An Act For the Purpose of
Converting the Present Philippine School of Commerce Into The Philippine
College of Commerce), the Philippine College of Commerce organized the
Department of Research and Statistics under the Office of the President.
Since there was no separate unit/office for planning, the planning
activities of the College were integrated with the research activities
in the institution.
In SY 1973-1974, the Office of Planning and Statistics under the College
Board Secretary was created to develop plans that would help the College
realize its goals through maximum use of available resources.
With the installation of Dr. Ofelia M. Carague as University President
in 1999, a new University structure was adopted and the present
Institutional Planning Office under the Office of the Vice President for
Research and Development was created. The functions of the Office are:
provide technical assistance in planning and program development;
coordinate with the different colleges/departments/offices/branches and
extensions in the preparation of their short-term, medium-term and
long-term plans; review periodically the University’s short-term and
medium-term plans and make recommendations on the required
reformulations and revisions in the plan; undertake performance
evaluation of the various units in the University in relation to their
plans and programs projected for the year; cause the preparation of the
Annual Report; ensure accurate and efficient processing of institutional
and statistical information for planning purposes and for national and
international use; undertake institutional evaluative studies covering
all sectors of the University; cause the collection of studies in the
University for curricular and administrative use; facilitate the
retrieval of data on faculty, administrative personnel and students.
When Prof. Zosimo O L. Villa retired on October 28, 2006, Prof. Jose M.
Abat was designated by Acting President Dante G. Guevarra to assume his
post.
