The national government declared a public health emergency following the increase in the number of persons infected with COVID-19. In line with this, classes in PUP NCR branch and campus have been suspended from March 9-14; PUP Sta. Mesa Campus from March 9-15, to further prevent person-to-person contact. We welcome this timely move and the PUP leadership is undertaking every measure necessary to ensure that our campuses are safe and healthy.
We have been regularly monitoring the development of the situation in the entire PUP system. So far, no member of our community has reported symptoms of COVID-19. We have also strictly enforced the 14-day self-quarantine for faculty and administrative employees who came overseas since January 2020. Our Medical Team led public awareness campaigns through posters and flyers, as well as through our social media channels.
The Executive Committee is implementing the following measures to effectively respond to this public health emergency:
Amid these trying times, the PUP Community remains vigilant and prepared. We count on our critical thinking and discernment to prevent the spread of wrong information about the epidemic that may contribute to public panic. Finally, we believe that this health crisis opens opportunities for us to be compassionate and to look out for each other. More than ever, we need to use our knowledge and resources to craft ethical and responsible solutions to this emergency.
