The Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) launched its first ever Inaugural Diplomacy Forum thru its academic student organization Political Science Society (PSS), upholding the theme, “Strengthening Partnerships with Foreign Missions in the Philippines” where seven diplomats from seven foreign missions addressed the PUP Community in their respective speeches on October 18, 2016.
The Bulwagang Balagtas podium was graced by seven diplomats from the Federative Republic of Brazil (Brazil), the Republic of India (India), the Republic of Indonesia (Indonesia), the Republic of Turkey (Turkey), the Argentine Republic (Argentina), the United States of America (USA), and the European Union (EU); each diplomat highlighted the assets of the countries they represent and their ties with the Philippines.Three Ambassadors to the Philippines represented their countries in the symposium; Brazil was represented by His Excellency Rodrigo do Amaral Souza; Turkey, by Her Excellency Esra Cankorur; and Argentina, by His Excellency Roberto Bosch.
Four other diplomats also showcased their countries’ benevolence towards the Philippines, namely Hon. M. Suresh Kumar, the Head of Chancery and First Secretary of Political, Cultural, and Press Diplomacy of the Indian Embassy; Hon. Trini Gunarti Sualang, the Minister Counsel for Social and Cultural Affairs of the Indonesian Embassy; Hon. Andrew Freeman, a foreign service officer of the US Embassy; and Hon. Robert Frank, an attaché of the EU Delegation to the Philippines.
The forum was attended by around 1,500 students and faculty aggregated from the morning and afternoon sessions, not limited to PUP; some hailed from Adamson University, University of Caloocan City, Lyceum of the Philippines University – Cavite, Arellano University, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa, and the Philippine Women’s University.
The program was officiated by Prof. Ryan Aguinaldo and Prof. Elmer M. Soriano, the Chairperson of the Department of Political Science, as the Chief Organizers, in partnership with the College of Political Science and Public Administration headed by its dean – Dr. Sanjay P. Claudio and Executive Offices of the University with the help of their junior and senior political science students.
