The Legal Education Board (LEB) named the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) as the fourth top performing law school in the Philippines among those with fewer than 63 examinees who took the recently concluded bar examinations. It has an overall rating of 63.33%. The University registered an impressive performance during the 2019 Bar Examinations with a topnotcher and more than half of its examinees, 38 out of 60, acing the grueling exams. Atty. Jun Dexter Rojas is the first topnotcher produced by the University after he gained the 9th spot.
LEB released two lists, one for universities with at least 63 examinees and the other is for those with fewer than 63 examinees. Among those with at least 63 examinees, University of the Philippines gained the top position with 82.46%, followed by Ateneo de Manila University at 81.38%, and San Beda University with 77.55%. University of Santo Tomas is fourth with 75.63%, while University of San Carlos at fifth place has 65.31% rating.
In the list with fewer than 63 examinees, Ateneo de Davao University is at the top with 88.64%, followed by Ateneo de Zamboanga University at 81.82%, and the Mariano Marcos State University at 73.33%. PUP and Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan (62.50%), rounds up the top 5 in this list.
The report is based on the official bar examination results released by the Office of the Bar Confidant of the Supreme Court. According to the published results, only schools with at least 11 examinees have been included in the annual ranking with the category threshold “based on the average number of examinees per school in the last four (4) bar examinations which is sixty-three (63) examinees.” The threshold was established to promote fairness in the comparisons relative to the context and population size of the institutions.
