The LGBTQIA+ organizations PUP KASARIANLAN, Bahagsari UP Manila, and Benilde Hive, jointly organized a Manila Anti-Discrimination Forum last June 30 via Zoom and broadcasted live via Facebook.
The webinar was made possible by its partners; Junior Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers—Lungsod ng Maynila, PUP College of Social Sciences and Development Student Council, PANTAY, Rotaract Club of Polytechnic University of the Philippines, and Pioneer Filipino Transgender men Movement (FTM).
The forum was created to celebrate the end of Pride Month and continuously fight for equality.
Anti-Discrimination Ordinance (ADO) forum was led by Zoe Bermejo, Chairperson of Bahagsari UP Manila, and with the guest speaker Atty. Jazz Tamayo, President of Rainbow Rights Philippines, a non-government Organization (NGO) focused on legal literacy and empowerment concerning SOGIE-based laws and policies.
Atty. Tamayo delivered the lecture regarding the Anti-Discrimination Ordinance No. 8695 or the Manila LGBTQI Protection Ordinance of 2020 signed by Manila Mayor Isko Moreno on October 29, 2020. The ordinance bans gender discrimination based on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Expression (SOGIE) in Manila.
An ordinance for the protection of the rights of Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals, Transgenders, Queers, and Intersex (LGBTQI) in the City of Manila against all forms of discrimination solely based on Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, Expression (SOGIE).
In her lecture, Atty. Tamayo tackled the definitions of Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, Gender Expression, Actual or Perceived SOGIESC, and declaration of ADO. She also discussed the coverage, prohibited acts, penalties of ADO and Manila Gender Sensitivity and Development Council.
