Delegates from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) participated and signed collaborative engagements with several American education institutions during the National Association for Foreign Student Advisers (NAFSA) Annual Conference and Expo. The yearly gathering of international educators and innovators was held last May 26-31 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, Washington D.C. USA.
Vice Presidents for Research, Extension and Development (VPRED) Dr. Anna Ruby V. Gapasin, and Student Affairs and Services (VPSAS) Zenaida R. Sarmiento led the PUP delegation. They were joined by Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Chair Prospero De Vera and Commissioner Ronald Adamat.
PUP signed a joint understanding with Central Washington University (CWU) focused on collaborative research, extension, and instruction on the advancement of Indigenous Peoples Studies and related community engagements. PUP also entered into an agreement with the Texas International Education Consortium (TIEC) on the fields of engineering technology, education, and distance learning.
They also met with representatives from the US Department of Education on quality assurance procedures, credit transfers, and other best practices, and Education USA Cultural Affairs Specialists Christine Grace Catindig to facilitate international linkages and boost student and faculty mobility in US-based educational institutions. PUP also witnessed the ceremonial signing program between CHED and the Center for Global Advancement of Community Colleges (CGACC) on joint conferences, exchange of students, and faculty for student and research.
Exploratory talks will continue with potential partners such as the American University on peace education, the Association of Schools in Hawaii, Columbia College, and several other community colleges in the US through video conferencing.
NAFSA 2019 opened various opportunities for PUP to expand its international network, participate in a specialized environment where leaders and innovators thrive, and express strong commitment for a better and quality educational platform for future scholars.
