March 5, 2018 was a momentous day for the Polytechnic University of the Philippines, as the PUP community gathered for the groundbreaking ceremony of the new gymnasium of the main campus.
The renovation of the 3,108 square-meter facility, which serves as the second home to the student-athletes, is a response to the growing needs of the PUP community to have a well-ventilated and spacious location for the training of the official representatives of the University in national and international sports competition, and a bigger events venue.
The phase one construction of the 41-year-old Gymnasium is expected to finish by March 2019.
The event was led by PUP President Dr. Emanuel C. De Guzman, Executive Vice President and Vice President for Students' Affairs and Services Dr. Herminia E. Manimtim, Vice President for Administration Prof. Alberto C. Guillo, Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Manuel M. Muhi, Vice President for Research, Extension and Development Dr. Joseph Mercado, and Vice President for Finance Ms. Marissa Legaspi.
Meanwhile, PUP community celebrated the groundbreaking of the new Nutrition and Food Technology Research Building on March 7, 2018.
The building will be constructed at the rear side of Ninoy Aquino Library and Learning Resources Center (NALLRC).
The University allotted more than 48 million pesos for the said project which is expected to finish next year.
