The PUP Institute of Labor and Industrial Relations launched its first Siyasat: Serye ng mga Pag-aaral sa Panlipunang Pananaliksik. This short course on social research ran twice a month which started on July 5, 2017 until October 18, 2017 from 1pm to 5pm and was held at Saliksikan (ILIR Resource Center).
Backed by its intention of contributing to the university’s goal of enriching a culture of research, it has been a challenge for the institute to promote probes and studies that are centered in an advocacy for social transformation and one that is nurturing and rediscovering the community based way of re-search and self-empowering research.
Open to all students of various courses, participants were carefully selected based on the recommendations of PUP faculty and student organizations in PUP. Topics that were covered are as follows: Introduction to Social Research, Social investigation and Class Analysis (Prof. Rimando E. Felicia, Department of Sociology, PUP), Approaches and Methods on Social Research (Prof. Esther Soraya Ambion, Department of Sociology, PUP), Filipino Perspectives and Approaches on Social Research (Prof. Jomar Adaya, Department of Filipinology, PUP), Language in Conceptualizing Social Phenomenon and Process of Research Writing (Dr. David Michael San Juan, DLSU faculty), Updates on Labor and Industrial Relations (Ms. Leny Madriaga, UP SOLAIR) and Documentation in Research (Prof. Romeo Pena, Department of Filipinology, PUP).
ILIR’s goal of bringing awareness on the different concepts, theories, and methodologies of social and participatory research, was evident in the way the resource persons incorporated a theory-to-practice approach in their sharing and presentation thus creating an atmosphere of collegial learning. This resulted in the participants’ high motivation to conduct preliminary studies in selected communities and factory belts in Metro Manila, and hopefully release a research publication.
Siyasat is a project of PUP Center for Labor Research and Publications, Institute of Labor and Industrial Relations, under the Office of the Vice President for Research, Extension, and Development in partnership with Know and A
