The State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA)-National Capital Region opened its 29th season with a colorful ceremony prepared by this year's host, the Polytechnic University of the Philippines on November 21, 2016.
With the motto “Moving ahead towards sports excellence”, the spirit of fellowship, camaraderie and sportsmanship were promoted in the opening ceremony.
As the chairman of this year’s Regional SCUAA 2016, PUP President Dr. Emanuel C. De Guzman conveyed his warmest welcome to the delegates, their respective athletes, coaches and school officials.
Executive Vice President and Vice President for Student Services Dr. Herminia E. Manimtim, Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Manuel M. Muhi, Vice President for Research, Extension, Planning and Development Dr. Joseph Mercado, Vice President for Branches and Campuses Pascualito B. Gatan, Vice President for Administration Alberto C. Guillo, Vice President for Finance Marissa J. Legaspi and other officials from the university graced the event.
Participants will compete in 21 sporting events – namely: athletics, badminton, arnis, baseball, basketball, beach volleyball, chess, dance sports, Karate-do football, lawn tennis, sepak takraw, softball women, swimming, taekwondo, table tennis and volleyball in the week-long sports tournament from November 21 to 28, 2016.
Aside from PUP, other participating state colleges and universities are Technological University of the Philippines, Rizal Technological University (RTU), Eulogio "Amang" Rodriguez Institute of Science and Technology (Earist), Philippine Normal College (PNC), Philippine State College of Aeronautics (Philsca) and Marikina Polytechnic College (MPC).
