Ralyn Rodriguez (CAL), among newly-elected central and local student council officers, was sworn in as the President of Central Student Council (CSC) of Polytechnic University of the Philippines Manila on May 9, 2018 at the Bulwagang Bonifacio, Ninoy Aquino Library and Learning Resources Center, PUP A. Mabini Campus in Sta. Mesa, Manila.
CSC Vice-President Marc Angelo Sanchez (CSSD), Councilors Ivy Collene Villamor (CBA), Leogene Bomitivo (COC), John Rey Magbanua (CAL), Melanie Calimlim (CAFA), Christine Pedregosa (CBA), Karl Patrick Utsig (CPSPA), Princess Shaine Abante (CPSPA), Jomar Sobiono (CBA), Deanne Trinidad (CAL), Jonero Dacula (CE), Rosalie Dena (CTHTM), and Donariz Cristino (CTHTM), all from the Students’ Party for Equality and Advancement of Knowledge (SPEAK), were also sworn in.
SPEAK won in nine local SCs–namely College of Accountancy and Finance (CAF), College of Tourism, Hospitality, and Transportation Management (CTHTM), College of Architecture and Fine Arts (CAFA), College of Arts and Letters (CAL), College of Business Administration (CBA), College of Computer and Information Sciences (CCIS), College of Engineering (CE), College of Education (CoEd), and College of Political Science and Public Administration (CPSPA)–while main opposing party, the Sandigan ng Mag-aaral para sa Sambayanan (SAMASA) won in the College of Science (CS).
Other parties such as Laban and Independent won in College of Communication (COC) and College of Social Science and Development (CSSD), respectively.
They took their oath before Student Council – Commission on Elections (SC-COMELEC) Secretary-General Christian Peligro.
“We have different undertakings, even made chaotic by the differences in our political ideologies and beliefs but nonetheless, may this day serve as the official unison of us all, regardless of political spectrums and colors, as we take heart in serving the greater good,” said Rodriguez in her inaugural speech.
“Hangga’t patuloy nating sinusundan ang pulso ng masa, hindi tayo malilihis ng landas,” she added at the end of her speech.
ANAK-PUP Convention
It is expected that Elijah San Fernando, the current Student Regent, will immediately convene the 20th Alyansa ng Nagkakaisang Konseho-Politeknikong Unibersidad ng Pilipinas (ANAK-PUP) Congress.
ANAK-PUP is composed of SCs throughout the PUP System and is tasked to elect the next representative of more than 70,000 "Iskolar ng Bayan" in the Board of Regents (BOR).
“Maybe after SK elections,” said San Fernando, referring to the upcoming Sangguniang Kabataan elections on May 14.
