In line with the University’s roadmap on the internationalization of education, PUP Lopez Branch forged an educational partnership with the International School – Thai Nguyen University of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. The partnership was formally sealed during a ceremonial signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) held via zoom on July 23, 2021.
In attendance were the distinguished officials of IS-TNU led by Dean Dr. Ha Xuan Linh and PUP officials led by President Dr. Manuel M. Muhi. Also present in the event were other university officials from IS-TNU including Dr. Tran Lun Hung, Vice Dean for International and Student Affairs; Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Khanh Doanh, Director of Department of International Affairs and Scientific Research; Dr. Dang Thi Thanh Huong, Vice Director for TNU International Affairs, Prof. Dr. Tran Thanh Van, Vice President for International Affairs-TNU. On the PUP side, witnessing the MOA signing were VP Pascualito B. Gatan, VP for Branches and Satellite Campuses; Dr. Rufo N. Bueza, PUP Lopez Director; Director Jonna Karla Bien of the Office of International Affairs; Dr. Veronica S. Almase, PUP Lopez Faculty Extensionist; members of the Committee on Internationalization, faculty, and staff of PUP Lopez.
Prior to the MOA signing, a virtual tour to IS-TNU has taken center stage, providing a panoramic view of the campus and its wide range of academic programs. Similarly, PUP presented an AV presentation that took the audience around the Main Campus and the Lopez Branch, offering a good immersive experience of the campus environment, academic programs, the 10 pillars that make it stand out as an institution of learning.
Following the virtual tour, Dr. Veronica S. Almase gave background information and orientation about the partnership, highlighting the areas of cooperation that were laid down during the Exploratory Meeting held on July 13, 2021.
Dr. Rufo N. Bueza emphasized in his message that this effort is one significant step toward championing PUP education amidst the challenging time. On the other hand, Prof. Pascualito B. Gatan noted that the collaboration is a timely and relevant step toward overcoming the challenges posed by the era and it definitely provides good opportunities to better serve the stakeholders. Pres. Manuel M. Muhi expressed optimism that this partnership will further strengthen the excellence of both IS-TNU and PUPLQ as an institution of learning. On the IS-TNU side, Assoc. Prof. Tran Thanh Van articulated his overwhelming expression of support to the educational partnership for the mutual benefit of both institutions.
Under the Memorandum of Agreement, IS-TNU and PUPLQ have agreed to build a strategic partnership in realizing the following pursuits:
1. Opening of Internship Program or OJT for students
2. Twinning Program (2+2 or 3+1)
3. Enrolment in Graduate Programs
4. Faculty and Student Exchange
5. Study Tour
6. Scholarship Grants to Students
7. Research Collaboration
8. Conduct of International Webinar
The concluding message was delivered by Director Jonna Karla Bien of the PUP Office of International Affairs wherein she congratulated both institutions for forging a bond of partnership that would not only impact the education they offer but will also foster cultural understanding and awareness.
To wrap up the event, Assoc. Prof. Maria Asuncion R. del Castillo, program host, acknowledged those who have made this venture possible, and later, she invited everyone present to join the photo opportunity.
