May 28 marks the start of the National Flag Days, under Republic Act 8491 or the “Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines”. The whole Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) community joined the rest of the nation for this annual celebration. This year, the opening ceremony was held at the PUP Freedom Park, with the theme: “Salute to the Philippine Flag.” The PUP flag raising activity was jointly organized by the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs (OVPAA), National Service Training Program (NSTP) Office, and the Safety and Security Office. University officials graced the said event which highlighted the Panunumpa at Pagpupugay sa Watawat. The National Flag Days celebration lasts for 15 days, ending on June 12 in celebration of the Philippine Independence Day. Spearheading the annual activity of simultaneous flag-raising is the National Historical Commission of the Philippines; with this year’s partner, Pronove Tai Property Consultants. All public and private agencies, offices, schools, institutions, commercial establishments, and residential homes are encouraged to display the Philippine Flag.
