The Polytechnic University of the Philippines Center for Life Sciences Research of the Institute for Science and Technology Research conducted a lecture-seminar titled "Chimeras and Chameleons: Hybrids and Plasticity in Color Expression in the Carrageenophyte Kappaphycus Alvarezii" the Bulwagang Bonifacio, Ninoy Aquino Library and Learning Resources Center on February 23, 2017.
The event which was co-organized by the Philippine Phycological Society, Inc. featured the lecture of Dr. Michael Y. Roleda, a research scientist of Basic and Applied Phycology of the Norwegian Institute of Bioeconomy Research as speaker.
Dr. Roleda discussed the enhancement of productivity and phenotypic superiority of the hybrids of six Kappaphycus species and the different environmental and genetic factors that affects the growth and colour expression of the species.
Dr. Roleda is a research scientist in the area of Basic and Applied Phycology in Norwegian Institute of Bioeconomy.
