The College of Business Administration Graduate Studies, through the PUP Master in Business Administration Society, kicked off its first webinar under their Project Smile series last August 14, carrying the theme “Gender and Development in the Workplace.” The event was graced by Dr. Rowena Navera, a Gender and Development focal person and the Vice President/Incorporator of Philippine Association of GAD advocates (PAGDAI). In her talk, Dr. Navera highlighted the Women’s History, Legal Mandates, Gender Mainstreaming, and Human Rights. She stressed that changing the belief and mindset of every Filipino on Gender and Development issues remains as a challenge. And the law, mechanism and budget were already in place. “If we really want to achieve the progress that we really want for the Philippines, we should accept, allow, we recognize and we embrace our brothers and sisters who are coming from the LGBT community. They are part of our society and their rights are equal to our rights. For us to be really an effective advocates of gender equality and women empowerment and all these to achieve gender development, it has to be a way of life we should set ourselves as a good example,” Dr. Navera said in her closing statement. Almost 250 students attended the event. Also present were CBA-GS Dean Dr. Guillermo Bongato Jr. and Associate Dean Dr. Cindy Soliman. The Business Administration Graduate studies department of Polytechnic University of the Philippines will continue to a hold specific event like this in an effort to spread awareness on Gender and Development, inclusion and sensitivity.
