Following the university’s commitment to becoming a reengineered university, the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) inaugurated and opened the newly constructed Multipurpose Building and Sports Development Facility, formerly known as the PUP Gymnasium, on October 22.
With its expanded area, the multi-million-peso sports facility can now accommodate up to 2000 people. Aside from four multipurpose rooms, several offices on the second floor have been set up for use. Indoor badminton court, improved bleachers, larger stage, shower room for athletes, storage rooms for various sports equipment, FIBA standard basketball court flooring system, weightlifting room, FIBA standard basketball goal system, wireless scoring systems, and access for our community members with disabilities were among the additional features.
President Manuel M. Muhi presided over the inauguration, which began with a blessing ceremony. He presented a celebratory speech to the PUP community, underlining the university's objective to create a safe, welcoming, and conducive learning environment.
“We have always acknowledged the necessity of providing a congenial and safe atmosphere for students, as well as establishing a physical environment that is sufficient for real and meaningful learning to take place. With this, we have increased our efforts to upgrade our infrastructure and to invest in long-term action plans that will support our university’s mission. This facility is only one of many projects we’re working on to reengineer our PUP campus,” he said.
The construction of the new gymnasium has undergone three phases which started in January 2017 and commenced on December 21, 2020.
