Bulwagang Balagtas was filled with LGBTQIA+ flags as PUPians celebrated diversity, inclusion, and pride on "A Symposium on Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, and Gender Expression: How Psychology and Guidance Can Contribute?" conducted by WISDOM PUP with PUP Guidance Office, Sentral na Konseho ng Mag-aaral, and PUP Speak on July 30, 2018.
"Nakakatuwa na napakaraming mga iskolar ng bayan ang may interes, may pakialam, at gustong makilahok, makisangkot sa usapin ng seksuwalidad at sa usapin ng mga karapatang hindi lamang sector ng kababaihan kundi ng sektor ng LGBT o mga hanay ng lesbian, gay, bisexual, at transgender at 'yong mga kasama pa, kahanay dito sa komunidad na 'to," said PUP Student Regent Elijah San Fernando on his welcome remarks. Prof. Ma. Luz J. Centeno, faculty member of College of Social Sciences and Development was the resource speaker of the symposium.
She discussed how psychology and guidance can contribute in fighting SOGIE-based discrimination and bullying inside and outside the campus. She also reminded that the Office of Counselling and Psychological Services is always open should there be students who seek help and assistance on different psychological and mental problems.
Audience were also encouraged to share their stories and inspire members of the community through their experiences on how they talked to their families regarding their SOGIE thru #MyOutStory.
Moreover, the said event had free HIV testing and free condom booth by Project Red Ribbon.
