In commemoration of the 53rd founding anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, the Polytechnic University of the Philippines along with the other Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) participated in the month-long online celebration that was organized by the Commission on Higher Education-National Capital Region with the theme, “Cohesive and Responsive ASEAN.” This event aimed to spread awareness about the challenges that our nations are currently facing this pandemic, and also to showcase the creativity and skills that would establish unity amid everything.
Sintang Paaralan bagged three awards with their representatives namely, Ms. Withel V. Bituin, AB in English Language Studies student, won First Place in the Online Spoken Word Poetry Contest; the PUP Bagong Himig Serenata won Third Place in the Online Chorale Contest, and Assistant Professor Jonna Karla C. Bien, from the College of Social Sciences and Development – Department of Psychology won Third Place in the Online Teaching Demonstration.
The Commission held a Virtual Kick-Off Ceremony last August 10, where they released the lineup of ASEAN-month activities, comprised of the following: Virtual Essay Writing, Online Spoken Poetry , Online Poster Making Contest, Online Chorale Contest, and Online Teaching Demonstration. Upon releasing the lineup of activities, the guidelines and requirements were also disseminated, and the regional competitions were officially opened for registration.
Competitions were held on different dates. For the Virtual Essay Writing Contest held last August 12, PUP was represented by Roselle V. Alub. It was then followed by the Poster-Making and Spoken Word Poetry Contests which were held on August 20, with Diane Mae M. Duran and Bituin as the University’s representatives. On August 26, Sir Mark Gregory Isip led the PUP Bagong Himig Serenata as they competed in the Chorale Contest. The Online Teaching Demonstration was held on August 27, with Assistant Professor Bien as the representative.
The month-long celebration ended with the Awarding and Closing Ceremony held on September 8, 2020, wherein the winners for each category were recognized. ###
