Outstanding undergraduate researches in the field of science and technology were hailed in the 2018 Science and Technology Undergraduate Research Competition held on April 12, 2018, at the Claro M. Recto Hall, PUP Main Campus.
Different colleges including College of Science (CS), College of Engineering (CE), College of Architecture and Fine Arts (CAFA), College of Computer and Information Sciences (CCIS), and PUP branches and satellite campuses submitted entries for the annual competition to share and showcase their works.
Out of 30 entries, Diana Dino and Roent Laurence Jogno from CCIS research titled "Automatic Detection of Chronic Laryngitis using Artificial Neural Networks and Acoustic Voice Quality Parameters" placed second; Carlene Rome Ledesma, Jhon Lloyd Reyes and Reuben James Rosal from CS research titled "Production, Purification, and Characterization of β-Mannanase from Aspergillus niger" hailed first, while Franz Jansen De Limios and Ma. Melissa Delavin from CS research titled "Antimicrobial Activity of Bacillus spp. Isolated from Philippine Mangrove soils against Clinically Important Pathogens" was hailed as champion.
Among the panel of judges was Dr. Melito Baccay from Technological University of the Philippines, D. Argel Bandala and Dr. Ryan Rhay P. Vicerra from De La Salle University, Asst. Professor Francis Balahadia from Laguna State Polytechnic University. and Dr. Axel Arriola from the University of the East.
The annual event which was organized by the Institute for Science and Technology Research under the Office of the Vice President for Research, Extension, and Development, aimed to promote the science, engineering, mathematical and technological advances in coming up with globally competitive innovations.
