The Department of Health launched the Nationwide Anti-Smoking Public Service Announcements produced by the PUP Bachelor in Advertising and Public Relations students.
With the help of Vital Strategies, BAPR students have successfully produced an animated smoking-cessation public service announcement for DOH. The video game-themed PSA is a unique and creative take on the anti-smoking PSAs usually seen on television, as it illustrates the importance of having a proper support system when attempting to quit smoking. The visual appeal and technicality of the material manifest the creativity and expertise of the talented BAPR students who worked tirelessly alongside Vital Strategies for the project. It is currently being aired on national television and radio news networks as part of the Department of Health’s 1558 Quitline, and other anti-smoking initiatives.
The PSA is part of the “Co-Op to Quit '' campaign that clinched the championship in this year’s AdSiklaban competition, an annual advocacy campaign competition in the Advertising and Public Relations community, supported by Vital Strategies. Through AdSiklaban, the ADPR aims to unleash the best ideas from the BAPR community for them to fulfill their roles in society by developing and executing relevant campaigns for the betterment of our country.
This sentiment is shared with Vital Strategies, a global health organization that has been collaborating with the ADPR community with its advocacies since 2017. They believe that every person should be protected by a strong public health system. They work with governments and civil society in 73 countries to design and implement evidence-based strategies that tackle their most pressing public health problems. Their goal is to see governments adopt promising interventions at scale as rapidly as possible.
The project has been a work in progress for the last two months and is a monumental achievement for the Department of Advertising and Public Relations. It is the first and only PSA produced by the BAPR students to reach the national television and radio audience.
The BAPR community, along with Vital Strategies, promises to continue delivering creative and relevant advocacies like this for the years to come. For them, it is both an honor and achievement to help the country tackle its issues by applying all the lessons and values taught by PUP.
