The Polytechnic University of the Philippines Team CelHar composed of Electronics and Communications Engineering students were declared as Champions in the Energy Innovation Challenge 2016 held on July 24, 2016 at Toa Payoh, Singapore.
PUP’s entry named CelHar optimizes the use of Lahar as an alternative source of electrical energy in rural areas. It topped 19 other Universities such as De La Salle University, Technological Institute of the Philippines and Nanyang Technological University from Singapore. Entries from the universities of Taiwan, Malaysia and Indonesia also vied for the challenge.
The Energy Innovation Challenge is one of the contests held during the National Engineers Day 2016 with the theme "Engineers: Innovators and Creators of the Future. Part of the celebration includes enriching activities specifically on Energy Innovation Challenge having four (4) categories: 1.Secondary Schools, 2. Junior College, 3. ITE and Polytechnic, 4. University-Singapore and International.
Team CelHar was led by Dr. Ben Andres from the College of Engineering. Among the members were Mikee Salcedo, Sharmaine Rose Artigo, Jaimey Kathryne David, Paolo Angelo M. Gaton and Jennelyn S. Geronimo.
