The Bachelor of Arts in Communication Research (BACR) students organized different communication campaigns to contribute to the attainment of the United Nations Development Programme’s (UNDP) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
On March 19, BACR students, through Injecting the right Lesson about sexual Abuse and Welfare (ILAW), The Unboxed Agenda, and Project Nene, organized a forum titled “Usapang Tahanan: How to be an Askable Adult.” The forum focused on Gender and Development (GAD)–related activities as part of the Celebration of International Women’s Month.
In the forum, Senior GAD Specialist from the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) Mr. Pent Elyria Dawn Liongson discussed how to advocate Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Expression, and Sex Characteristics (SOGIESC) Education. It was followed by a lecture with Consultant/Trainer for Comprehensive Sexuality Education of the Center for Health Solutions and Innovation (CHSI Philippines) Mr. Cris C. Gonzales about Sex Education from the Parents to the Children. Meanwhile, PUP Office of the Counseling and Psychological Services Chief Dr. Rodrigo V. Lopiga explained sexual abuse and welfare and its impact on the children’s mental well-being.
The second part of the campaign, held on March 31, emphasized fast fashion and environmental sustainability and protection through Project Meme’s webinar titled “From Micro Efforts to Macro Effects (MEME): Building a Zero Waste Environment.”
In this activity, technical officer and Head Executive Assistant of ASEAN Center for Diversity Mr. James Santiago highlighted the macro effects of environmental sustainability and protection while Sustainable Energy and Enterprise Development for Communities Founder and Executive Director of the Sustainable Energy and Enterprise Development for Communities Mr. Dan Diez dwelt on the relationship between fast fashion and the environment. Moreover, the Vice Chairman of the National Solid Waste Management Commission Mr. Crispian Lao discussed the micro efforts in building a zero-waste environment.
These activities were participated by parents, teachers, and students from Usosan Elementary School (Taguig), Kabayanan Elementary School (San Juan City), Dona Remedios Trinidad High School (Bulacan), Abra State Institute of Science and Technology (Abra), Pangasinan State University (Pangasinan), Northwest Samar State University (Samar), Cebu Technological University (Cebu) and Standford International School (Zamboanga City). Other participants are from Manila, Agusan Del Sur, General Santos City, Singapore, United Arab Emirates, and West Asia.
The College of Communication (COC) Department of Communication Research (DCR) acknowledged Dr. Ester L. Catimon, Dr. Khristian S. Liwanag, Mrs. Hernanda R. Santos, Rotaract Metro Zamboanga, Rotaract Greater Zamboanga, Bagat Youth Alliance, Unified Youth San Joseño, and The 100% Attitude Project for the support in these activities.
