Former Sen. Leticia Ramos-Shahani, former Rep. Liza Maza and incumbent Rep. Antonio Tinio expounded on the theme ‘Bridging the Culture of Peace in the Philippines: Asserting Philippine Sovereignty in the Midst of US-China Powerplay’ in a forum held at the PUP Gymnasium in Sta. Mesa, Manila on July 24.
Shahani spoke for PINAS (Pilipinong Nagkakaisa para sa Soberenya) while Maza and Tinio represented partylist groups GABRIELA (General Assembly Binding Women for Reforms, Integrity, Equality, Leadership and Action) and ACT (Alliance of Concerned Teachers), respectively.
The retired diplomat-senator and the two progressive solons addressed a large audience composed of University President Dr. Emanuel C. De Guzman, Dir. Hilda F. San Gabriel of the Institute for Social Sciences and Development (ISSD), Dean Nicolas T. Mallari of the College of Social Sciences and Development (CSSD), Chairperson Raul Roland R. Sebastian of the CSSD Department of History/Center for Peace and Poverty Alleviation Studies (CPPAS), Chairperson Norie Maniego of the CSSD Department of Economics and scores of PUP faculty members, students and employees.
The Office of the Vice President for Research, Extension, Planning and Development (OVPREPD) and CSSD organized the event in cooperation with ACT Philippines.
