Several leaders and representatives from non-government and social development organizations of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) attended the Inclusion and PWDs in the Philippines conducted by the Center for Inclusivity and Diversity of the PUP Extension Management Office held on December 3, 2021.
The said online activity is the 12th and closing advocacy project of EMO-CID for 2021, which according to EMO Director Assoc. Prof. Zandro Estella is intentionally and fittingly as December 3 is in celebration of the International Day of PWDs.
The webinar featured an online lecture by PUP alumna Ms. Paula Bianca Lapuz who is herself a PWD, inclusion advocate, and a specialist researcher on PWD issues and concerns.
In her presentation, Ms. Lapuz emphasized the need to further promote and protect PWD rights in the Philippines given that much has yet to be done notwithstanding the many pertinent laws that the country has, like Republic Act 7277 or the “Magna Carta of Disabled Persons.”
Also invited in the webinar were PWD leaders and exemplars Mr. Ramil Junasa Jaictin, the Founder and current Chairperson of Kids for the Future Philippines, and Assoc. Prof. Angelita Sumayaw-Villaruel, Faculty Extensionist of the College of Social Sciences and Development. Mr. Jaictin and Assoc. Prof. Sumayaw-Villaruel provided additional inputs and reactions to the presentation of Ms. Lapuz.
To end the meaningful online discussion, webinar moderator and EMO-CID Coordinator Prof. Christo Rey Albason pointed CID’s intent to continue its advocacy for PWDs by working to connect more people with activities that increasingly embrace PWDs and thus develop a more inclusive PWD rights advocacy program.
