PUP College of Science (CS) alumni Abigail Mae C. Jambaro, Kimberly D. Neri, Harvey H. Austria and Maria Rejane J. Nepacina presented their collaborative researches at the 10th International Mycological Congress (IMC10) held last August 3-8 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok, Thailand.
Jambaro and Neri presented their paper entitled “Utilization of Selected Urban Wastes as Substrate Combinations in the Growth and Yield Performance of Pleurotus sajor-caju (Fr.) Singer (Gray Oyster Mushroom)” in the symposium on the topic ‘Sustainable Development of Fungal Resources”.
Austria and Nepacina’s “Teratogenic Activity of Agaricus bisporus ( J. E. Lange) Imbach and Lentinus edodes (Berk.) Pegler on Danio rerio (Zebrafish) and Oryzias latipes (Japanese rice fish) Embryo” was likewise short-listed for poster presentation.
Organized by the International Mycological Association (IMA), the event had for its theme ‘Fungal Biodiversity, Physiology and Ecology in a Changing Environment’. It attracted nearly 1,500 mycological enthusiasts from 61 countries. The four PUPians who attended IMC10 were accompanied by their Biology thesis adviser, PUP Institute for Science and Technology Research (ISTR) head Dr. Lourdes V. Alvarez.
