The Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP), in partnership with various colleges and universities across the Philippines, will lead a project on the development of synergistic air and water quality sensing systems with purification devices using local materials. This project is under the Environmental Network for a Viable Institutionalized Technology with Environmental Compliance Standards (ENVITECS) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
In a virtual presser titled ‘Investing in R&D: Shaping the Philippine Innovation Landscape’ hosted by the Department of Science and Technology - Science for Change Program (DOST -S4CP) on October 8, 2021, PUP is among the higher education institutions that shared their ongoing and future projects related to Industry and Energy R&D, Disaster and Risk Reduction Management, and Health R&D.
Dr. Abigail P. Cid-Andres, a professor from PUP College of Science, shared that the projects being managed by ENVITECS aim to help protect and preserve the environment, promote sustainable utilization of natural resources, and efficient waste material management without hindering the economic growth of the stakeholders. The projects are also part of DOST’s efforts in strengthening the relationship between the academic sector and government agencies. The projects’ beneficiaries are micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), researchers, and the local communities.
PUP President Manuel Muhi was also present in the virtual presser. President Muhi, in his message, guarantees the full support of the whole university with the projects under ENVITECS. Furthermore, he mentioned that all of the projects mentioned would significantly impact harnessing technologies to improve all the stakeholders’ research and development capacity.
The virtual presser was organized to promote the Science and Technology Institute (STI) to keep up with the developments and innovations in science and technology.
The presser was composed of three (3) main segments: (1) Industry and Energy R&D; (2) Disaster and Risk Reduction Management; and (3) Health R&D. Each segment entertained questions and clarifications from various media partners and researchers who participated in the virtual event.
