The Office of the Vice President for Research and Development (OVPREPD), through the Gender and Development Office (GADO) and the Extension Management Office (EMO) , conducted a two-day training workshop titled: Gender in Extension Programs last September 1-2, 2022 via Zoom.
With the primary objective of capacitating the participants on the formulation and conduct of gender-related extension programs and projects, the capability-building activity was attended by approximately 280 participants from the different units, offices, branches and campuses of the university. The guest speaker was Dr. Presley V. De Vera, Gender and Development Coordinator of the Open University Systems of Pangasinan State University, Lingayen Campus.
Prof. De Vera delivered insightful and motivating topics on key Gender Concepts and Basic Gender Analysis, Data and Materials for Gender Analysis, Gender and Analysis Framework where Harvard Analytic Framework and Moser Frameworks were emphasized. Dr. De Vera also stressed the role of CHED Memorandum Order No. 01, series of 2015, where the conduct of Gender Responsive Extension Programs is highly encouraged in higher education institutions. She mentioned that the priority areas of GREP, which are technology transfer, livelihood programs, technical assistance, advocacies, linkages are some of the essential attributes for a successful and impactful extension project.
Dr. De Vera also provided additional insights on the Harmonized Gender and Development Guidelines (HGDG) for Project Development, Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation –a comprehensive discussion on guiding the project leaders and members in the conduct of GAD-related programs and projects. She discussed the salient points in the guidelines and provided practical tips and examples of best practices in the conduct of gender-related extension initiatives.
Representatives from the different clusters presented their extension project proposals. The clusters were represented by the different colleges, branches and campuses and noteworthy proposals were evaluated by the resource speaker.
A total of 15 proposals were formulated during the workshop which aim to address various themes such as upcycling, day-care development, spiritual wellness, health communication, mushroom production, arts for peace and equality, early reading performance, career development, women’s capacity improvement, and women’s livelihood programs.
