Polytechnic University of the Philippines together with National Council on Disability Affairs Information, Education, and Communication Division Chief Rizalio R. Sanchez and National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) Supervising Historic Sites Development Officer Bryan Anthony Paraiso led the commemoration of Apolinario Mabini’s 154th birth anniversary held at the PUP Freedom Park on July 23, 2018.
Meanwhile, NHCP Supervising Historic Sites Development Officer Paraiso also urged Filipinos, especially the youth, to make Mabini an inspiration and a model because of his beliefs and ideals, and how he fought for these despite of his disability. “Sa panahon ngayon, alam po natin na ang ating bayan ay nakakaranas ng maraming mga suliranin; magsilbing inspirasyon si Mabini sa mga kabataan, tularan siya, gumawa ng paraan upang makatulong sa bayan para maingangat ang ating bayan,” he said in an exclusive interview with The Observer.
Paraiso also reiterated Mabini’s courage through his struggles as a revolutionary.
The PUP community, after the ceremony, visited the Museo ni Apolinario Mabini to commemorate his contributions to the country as the brain of the revolution. They also went at the Mabini Shrine to celebrate his humble beginnings.
The shrine is a replica of Mabini’s original house when he was studying in Manila, after his deportation in Guam, and until his death on May 13, 1903. It is a level 1 national shrine that is currently under the supervision of NHCP. In 2010, the Mabini Shrine was transferred from Malacanang Park, Pandacan, Manila to PUP, where it served as its permanent home since then.
