The Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) expanded its partnership with the three best Chinese universities namely, Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU), Yunnan Minzu University (YMU), and Jinan University (JU), through a nine-day study visit in China sponsored by the Chinese Embassy last November 29 to December 7, 2018. This was in line with the vision of PUP President Emanuel C. De Guzman to establish PUP as an epistemic community and first National Polytechnic University in the country.
The Chinese Embassy’s Political Attaché Atty. Leo Zhang and some of his colleagues facilitated the visit. The delegation was led by Vice President for Administration Adam V. Ramilo in behalf of President De Guzman. The College of Political Science and Public Administration (CPSPA) Dean Antonius C. Umali, Department of Political Science Chairperson Elmer M. Soriano, Department of Political Economy Chairperson Estefanie R. Cortez, Director Jean Paul G. Martirez, and CPSPA faculty members namely, Prof. Ferdinand L. La Puebla, Prof. Ivy Ganadillo, Mr. Ryan M. Aguinaldo, and Mr. Reymundo D.J. De Guzman have participated in the said tour.
Opportunities identified between universities include student exchange program, faculty lectures and teaching, and research. These Chinese universities have current partnerships with other universities within Asia, Europe, and the United States.
One of the highlights of the visit was the sharing of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) by PUP delegates to Chinese universities for immediate communication to have a more productive partnership in the near future.
