The Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) and the Daily Tribune signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for a multimedia partnership on January 13, 2021.
PUP President Dr. Manuel Muhi welcomed the partnership with the Daily Tribune, a broadsheet publication in the Philippines, stating that it will provide more opportunities to students and faculty members of the university.
“This partnership will truly provide our dear students hands-on experience within a dynamic and progressive learning environment through on-the-job training programs and will further equip the faculty with practical skills and expertise for the crafting of industry-ready course works that fit the needs of the community,” Muhi said in his opening remarks.
Under the MOA, the Daily Tribune will conduct seminars, panel discussions, lecture series, practical training programs, and the like among the students and faculty members of the university. They will also provide internship works, on-job-training programs, and referrals to similar media outfits among the qualified students of PUP.
Likewise, under the agreement, the university shall arrange the use of appropriate venues and provide logistical support and appropriate participants to the projects that will be conducted.
“It is our aim to provide students with the space to learn while giving them a more holistic look at the realities of today’s journalism away from the construct of a traditional news organization,” said by the Daily Tribune’s Associate Editor, Dinah Ventura.
Meanwhile, the Daily Tribune Executive Vice President Maria Bettina Fernandez and Managing Editor Aldrin Cordona shared their insights and message on the tie-up.
Present in the ceremonial signing who also gave a message was PUP Vice President for Research, Extension and Development Dr. Anna Ruby Gapasin, who greeted the College of Communication (COC) and the Daily Tribune for the linkage.
“This agreement would serve as a vehicle for our faculty members continuing professional development and the students will surely benefit from this endeavor,” she stated.
PUP – COC officials Dean Dr. Divina Pasumbal, and Chairpersons of the Department of Journalism, Broadcasting, Advertising and Public Relations and Communication Research, Dr. Hemmady Mora, Dr. Ma. Lourdes Garcia, Dr. Jerielyn Reyes and Dr. Rudolf Anthony Lacerna, respectively, took part also in the MOA signing.
