PUP Senior High School and the Kaohsiung Municipal Fu-Cheng Senior High School-Taiwan bagged the honorable mention award in the recently held virtual Asian Student Exchange Program (ASEP) 2021 on December 27-28, 2021.
ASEP is an annual cooperation of schools from Asian and New Southbound countries for both teachers and students to have an opportunity to enhance their international cultural knowledge and learn to respect foreign cultures.
The collaborative activity is part of the agreement between PUP, through the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs (OVPAA), the Office of International Affairs (OIA), and KMFSHS in the spirit of educational cooperation and making a significant contribution to people's international and intercultural education.
Organized by the Education Bureau, Kaohsiung City Government, and Chung-Shan Industrial and Commercial High School, the theme for ASEP 2021 focused on the “Action for Sustainable Development Goals in Post-Pandemic Era” in an effort to continue raising awareness and pushing forward the universal call to action amidst the effects of the recent pandemic around the world.
With the use of a comparison of the mental health status of youth in Taiwan and the Philippines, the PUP-SHS and KMFSHS presented their findings on Sustainable Development Goal 3, which is focused on Mental Health and provided action plans that will foster social and emotional learning among students.
The team of PUP-SHS was represented by Aliyah Red Cadiz, Brian Mulhadi, Marc Villagera, Joseph Renoyalan of ABM and STEM strand, under the guidance of Ms. Melanie Jimenez, faculty from the College of Education. “We chose SDG 3 on good health and well-being, or specifically on mental health, because of its significance to our society. The opportunity to address such a serious issue motivated us to raise awareness not only in the Philippines but also in other nations around the world” said Brian Mulhadi, PUP-SHS representative.
“The overall experience was fulfilling because even we have major differences in terms of culture and race, we think and act as one on our goal to provide sustainable actions and solutions in regards to mental health issues internationally,” he added.
ASEP 2021 was joined by students from Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Indonesia, Vietnam, and the Philippines.
