A total of forty-one (41) Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) officials and faculty members led by Assistant to the Vice President for Student Affairs and Services and concurrent Director of the Alumni Relations and Career Development Office, Engr. Florinda H. Oquindo have been certified for finishing the nine-session Career Center Training Program granted by the United States Agency for International Development’s (USAID) Science, Technology, Research, and Innovation for Development (STRIDE) on January 19, 2021.
PUP President Dr. Manuel M. Muhi, PUP Vice President for Student Affairs and Services Dr. Zenaida S. Sarmiento, USAID-Philippines’ Office of Education Director Dr. Thomas LeBlanc, Florida State University Dr. Jeff Garis, and Chief-of-Party of the STRIDE Program Dr. Richard S. Abendan congratulated the participants. Dr. Muhi also thanked the participants for their utmost commitment to the fulfillment of the vision of the PUP Career Center for the benefit of the stakeholders of the University.
The training for the establishment of the PUP Career Center which started in November 2020, was facilitated by the USAID-RTI International STRIDE program and its partner institutions for training including Ateneo de Davao University's Ateneo Career Center and Alumni Hub (ACCAH), University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines Career Center, and Technological Institute of the Philippines (TUP) Career Center.
Despite the challenges of remote work due to the pandemic, the PUP delegation, which was said to have the largest in terms of number of attendees compared from previous trainings conducted by USAID-RTI International STRIDE, worked hard to fully achieve the objectives of the program. The establishment of the PUP Career Center is envisioned to be “an all-inclusive facility for the formulation and operation of sustainable career-related programs and services geared toward the development of the PUPian’s critical self-awareness that facilitates responsible and meaningful life choices towards academic and career success.”
The PUP Career Center is expected to be inaugurated in the fourth quarter of 2021.
