The Center for Social History under the Institute for Cultural Studies, Office of the Vice President for Research, Extension, Planning and Development, conducted a National Lecture on Social History with Prof. Satoru Nishimura, PhD of Kagoshima University of Japan as a speaker on November 11, 2016.
The event, which was co-organized by the Office of International Affairs, featured the lecture of Dr. Nishimura entitled “The History of a Japanese Emigrant in the Philippines and his Descendants”. The Japanese professor highlighted the importance intercultural adaptation and negotiation in any case of emigration.
Some faculty members, students and guests who attended the event asked the speaker with a variety of questions to clarify major concepts discussed in the lecture, which Dr. Nishimura brilliantly answered.
Official present during the program were Dr. Evangeline Seril (Dean of the College of Arts and Letters), Prof. Maria Teresa Villar (Director of International Affairs), and Prof. Joseph Reylan Viray (Director of Institute for Cultural Studies).
The noteworthy project was an initiative of Prof. Romeo Peña, the Chief of the Center for Social History.
