Over 300 regular faculty members – including directors, deans and chairpersons – attended a whole-day research program orientation seminar organized by the Office of the Vice President for Research, Extension, Planning and Development Dr. Manuel M. Muhi. The activity was held April 7 at the Manila Room, Hasmin Hostel, PUP Marcelo H. del Pilar Campus, Sta. Mesa, Manila.
Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Samuel M. Salvador gave the welcome remarks. PUP President Dr. Emanuel C. De Guzman delivered an inspirational message which highlighted his administration’s commitment to the promotion of research in the University as highlighted in the 8-point agenda of his administration.
Seminar organizers invited Dr. Maricar S. Prudente, Mr. Pio Salvador, Prof. Ofelia Villamor, Engr. Jesus Bien Jr., Asst. Prof. Zandro T. Estella, and Prof. Elmer De Jose as resource speakers.
Dr. Prudente said higher education institutions exist for research, learning and teaching, and knowledge transfer purposes. The educator from De La Salle University explained that a change in school culture should involve the institution’s mission, vision, values and goals; cooperation among team players; honest and open communication; persistence in achieving the target; and confronting problems. Her presentation also showed different models of an institutional research-innovation environment.
Mr. Salvador, an Elsevier account manager, shared valuable information on scientific journal publication using SCOPUS.
Chief Villamor of the Innovation and Technology Support Office (ITSO) talked about the functions of her office while Engr. Bien explained the importance of patent and copyright applications.
Asst. Prof. Estella discussed the revised University Research Agenda (URA) which shall guide faculty members on research topics that should be aligned with the PUP centerpiece program on Social Capital and Innovations.
Chief De Jose of the Intellectual Property and Commercialization Office (IPCO) tackled the policy and implementing guidelines on University research and development support, funding and incentives.
Research and Extension Management Office head Dr. Racidon P. Bernarte read Executive Vice President Manuel M. Muhi’s closing remarks.
