“Malapit sa puso ko ‘yung PUP, para siyang second Alma matter ko; every time na pumupunta ako rito para akong bumabaliksa bahay ko,” says famous and award-winning novelist and scriptwriter Ricky Lee on why he chose the Sintang Paaralan to introduce his third novel to his readers on March 10, 2018 at Claro M. Recto Hall. During his book talk, he said that he always feels the warm welcome of the PUP Community that is why he never hesitates to come back to the university. Mr. Lee also narrated his journey on writing the book titled “Bahay ni Marta”, even doubting to publish the said novel because of its length. Furthermore, he mentioned his upcoming book, which has an excerpt on his third novel that he will release this year. He concluded his speech by mentioning his future workshops, projects, and master classes, and expressed his eagerness to help the Filipino writers.
Before Ricky Lee started his book talk, Director of Institute for Culture and Language Studies Prof. Joseph Reylan Viray gave his welcoming remarks. He also acknowledged prominent guests who attended the launch like actresses Miles Ocampo and Agot Isidro, writer Eros Atalia, and National Artist for Literature BienvinidoLumbera. Afterwards, PUP Graduate School Professorial Lecturer Jun Cruz Reyes gave an introduction for Ricky Lee, shared their journey as writers, and even told amusing stories about their friendship. An audio-visual presentation of the excerpts from the novel directed by Lav Diaz was played.
The program then proceeded to the book signing where the event catered hundreds of students, guests, faculty members, staff members, and alumni where they had their book signed and written a personal message by Ricky Lee.
